The Conservative Environment Network (CEN) is looking for a strategic and committed individual to lead our influential climate programme, supporting our parliamentary caucus and councillor network to champion conservative solutions to deliver net zero and grow the economy.
In a year of general, mayoral and local elections, this is an exciting and critical time to be shaping climate policy in the conservative movement. CEN’s climate programme has a strong track record of influencing policy. This successful candidate will help us build on this success and deliver further climate policy wins during this parliament, design a new strategy for the next parliament, and ensure support for net zero remains strong across the conservative movement.
This role is ideal for a policy researcher or public affairs professional with a minimum of three years’ experience working in or around the UK conservative movement and a strong awareness of UK climate policy.
The successful applicant will:
- Line manage CEN’s climate team
- Produce briefings, policy papers, and letters on climate issues
- Maintain an extensive network of climate experts
- Deliver effective climate campaigns
- Manage engagement with the CEN caucus on climate issues, responding to their queries on policy and supporting climate campaigns
- Manage engagement with the CEN councillor network on climate issues, writing briefings and supporting the delivery of webinars
- Grow CEN’s engagement with conservatives in devolved parliaments on climate issues
- Support the Director in representing CEN in the media on climate issues, including doing broadcast interviews, writing regular blogs, and authoring op-eds
- Support the Director on fundraising for the climate programme
Person specification:
- A passion for conservative environmentalism
- Experience of working with Conservative parliamentarians
- Strong knowledge of UK climate policy debates
- A track record of influencing and commenting on climate policy
- Line management experience
- Passionate about working collaboratively in a small team
- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent political judgement and an ability to think strategically and identify opportunities to advance CEN’s mission
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and an ability to form and maintain extensive stakeholder networks
