Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Working For: Craig Hoy MSP

Location: Edinburgh and South Scotland Region

Salary: £25,000 per annum

Job Details

You will be a key member of a small team, involved in a range of Parliamentary duties contributing to the work of Craig Hoy MSP and his team

Responsibilities:

  • Gathering and distributing valuable data that supports my activities.
  • Keeping your knowledge of policy areas and local issues up-to-date.
  • Carrying out research projects.
  • Obtaining and compiling relevant research documents.
  • Preparing and delivering regular briefings and updates.
  • Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data and statistics.
  • Providing support for meetings 
  • Plan and assist the MSP team with the operational aspects, surgery tours and related activities across the region.
  • Producing materials that effectively convey Craig's aims to the general public and media.
  • Keeping up to date with current media developments.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
  • Corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups.
  • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials.
  • Supporting the MSP’s Parliamentary, media and constituency work, including media communications via e-mail, letter and phone.
  • Provide assistance to the Communications Officer, including media and political monitoring and clippings.
  • Drafting written questions and other materials for use in parliament and on social media.
  • Carrying out general office administration.
  • Providing assistance to the Caseworker.
  • Investigating issues raised through correspondence and surgeries while professionally managing each enquiry within agreed timescales.
  • Drafting written correspondence such as letters, requests for information and parliamentary questions and motions.
  • Ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and GDPR requirements.
  • Ensuring administrative and secretarial support is provided.

About You:

  • Have excellent written, verbal and IT skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Be empathetic with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Be well organised with the ability to prioritise competing workloads.
  • Have the ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the media world operates.
  • Be a proactive problem solver with the motivation and resilience to adapt and deal with challenges.
  • A full driving licence would be advantageous.
