The General Federation of Trade Unions was established in 1899 and is a democratic organisation responding to the needs of affiliated trade unions. Like unions, we aim to improve the lives of working people and their communities.
Our federation includes a joint membership of over 600,000 union members, from 28 different union affiliates and the GFTU and GFTU educational trust (GFTU ET) provide support through; a programme of online and face to face union activist courses, leadership & management training, detailed campaigns, organising & specialist research support for all unions, to developing professional support for officers. Working as part of a team, you will lead the day-to-day management of our education programme, the recruitment and retention of students, reporting, analysing, assessment, of the impact, effectiveness, and success of the education programme, tracking development of students and the recruitment & induction of tutors.
This role will require reporting to trustees, national executive and other key stakeholders. You will work closely with our fundraising team to evidence the impact of our programme in generating revenue for the educational trust.
You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding and experience of trade unions, industrial relations, activists' development, and demonstrate experience as a lay union workplace rep/branch officer or an equivalent paid union staff role. You will have an interest in the principles of trade unions and labour relations and be keen to be up to date emerging trends in union education in our movement and beyond.
Part of your role will include an oversight of assessment, end point assessment of a Trade Union Officials Apprenticeship, accreditation and the internal quality assurance to ensure accreditation and achievement of learning qualifications is successful, line management of our education administrator, and therefore line management experience or project management will be expected, alongside an ability to tutor courses. Part time and job share applications are welcomed.
