Working For: ACORN

Location: West Yorkshire

Salary: £21,840

Length of Contract: 12 months (funding dependent extension)

Job Details

ACORN is looking for a Member Defence and Field Organiser to build power to fight for social and economic change in West Yorkshire, starting on Monday, 20th May 2024.

ACORN is a mass membership organisation and a direct action community union. By taking action on issues that affect us, we win real changes to our lives and our communities. As an Organiser with ACORN, you will be responsible for recruiting, developing and supporting members to take action on issues affecting them and the communities they come from.

Member Defence is a section of our organising in which members come together to support an individual member’s issue through direct action. This could mean stopping evictions, winning housing repairs or safe accommodation for our members, or fighting for fair treatment at work.

It's a really exciting time for ACORN in West Yorkshire with branches in Leeds and Bradford and the freshly launched group in Huddersfield.

This role will begin with an initial focus of organising in Bradford for the first few months and will be followed by organising work in other parts of West Yorkshire with a focus on Leeds. The successful candidate will generally be expected to work out of the Leeds office HQ once a week for training and development.

We’re hosting a ‘Work for ACORN’ zoom call with ACORN organising staff on 27th March, 2024 at 6pm! This call is a great opportunity to find out more about upcoming rolls and to ask current staff any questions about the job and the union. You can register for the call here:
