Job Title: Growth & Innovation - Senior Policy Manager

Working For: Public First

Location: London

Salary: £38,000 - £50,000

Length of Contract: Permanent, with freelance options available too

Job Details

Public First is a specialist consultancy, helping charities, philanthropists, public sector bodies,
global brands and start-ups improve public policy. Based in London, we have worked in more than thirty international markets. We are part think tank, part strategic consultancy, part polling company, and part communications agency. In other words, we bring together the different disciplines that make policy happen and work.

Our recent projects have included:

  • Helping Google quantify their economic and social impact in over 20 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America. You can see our most recent UK report here.
  • Exploring public attitudes to AI in the UK and US
  • Looking at how to best balance flexibility and fairness in the Gig Economy
  • Running the Hybrid Work Commission on the economic and policy impact of the shift towards more flexible working

We are currently looking to recruit a new Growth & Innovation Policy Analyst to help support our Economics, Tech and Impact practices.

The kinds of questions the right candidate would be interested in questions like:

  • Why has growth in the US been so much stronger than in the UK in the last few decades? What could we do to reverse that?
  • What practical ways could we take to ensure our regulatory and competition systems are not biassed against innovation - which ensuring it does still protect against real risks?
  • How well does GDP do at measuring the consumer benefits from free internet technologies? How could we do better?
  • How can we build practical policy or local coalitions to make it easier to build infrastructure?
  • Is AI really going to change everything - or is it soon going to run into hard limits?

In this role, you should be able to confidently:

  • Independently research and summarise new topics related to economics or policy
  • Write for both a general and more expert audience
  • Do basic data analysis with spreadsheets
  • Help support our Impact, Economics, Tech and Polling teams in finding new ways to explore and quantify the benefits or risks from innovation

We are primarily looking for people for a full-time position, but also open to a part-time or freelance model for the right candidate.
