Job Details
Mary Kelly Foy MP is looking for a Caseworker to join her Durham office. The role is part-time (80% FTE), fixed-term for 12 months initially, requests for flexible working will be considered. Mary encourages applications from under-represented groups.
This is a great opportunity for someone with excellent administrative skills who works well in a small team, has a positive attitude and is efficient and personable. You will be based in the office where constituents seek advice and support via telephone, email and in person. You’ll provide information, advice and support to constituents on many issues and liaise with organisations to resolve cases. You’ll work with local groups to identify issues, engage with local communities and contribute to Parliamentary activities.
Experience using social media is beneficial as Mary looks to increase her output across all platforms. Applicants should have an awareness of the City of Durham and a desire to serve the constituents.
Travel for work and working outside of hours may occasionally be required. This is an exciting time to join a hardworking team with the aim of bringing Durham together.
Responsibilities - not exclusive
Deal with high volume of queries from constituents, assist with complex cases by phone, email or in person. Ongoing communication often required
Deal with cases promptly, confidentially and accurately
Gather relevant information to resolve cases
Draft responses to constituents
Log cases; monitor progress and take identified actions
Manage records in line with GDPR
Assist with surgeries/meetings
Attend constituency meetings when needed
Contribute to press releases and social media
Liaise with Council, Government depts and other organisations
Personal Specification - essential unless noted
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent time management, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Manage own workload, prioritise well and great organisational skills
Experience of working and dealing with the general public
Experience of Microsoft Office
Experience of social media platforms and creating content
Experience of assisting in the organisation of events
Deal with issues in a confidential and sensitive manner
Work effectively in a small team
Commitment to aims and values of the Labour Party
Casework experience (desirable)
Driving licence and use of a car (desirable)
