Job Details

Preet Kaur Gill MP is looking for a caseworker to join her constituency team in Birmingham, Edgbaston.
Candidates should be highly literate and personable with a good telephone manner.
They should be extremely well organised with a strong attention to detail and have a genuine passion to serve the constituents of Edgbaston.
You will be working as part of a close-knit team in the Edgbaston office so you must have excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills and a willingness to learn.
You will be expected to act independently and provide information, advice and support to constituents on a range of issues including immigration, housing, benefits and other social issues and make appropriate representations on their behalf.
Experience of working in casework, CAB, the public sector or other fast paced pressured roles is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
• Attending surgeries
• Dealing with a broad range of constituents in an empathetic manner
• Liaising with third parties in a professional manner
• Ability to deal with complex, time-sensitive and often emotive issues
• Ability to thrive under pressure
• Comprehensively recording all cases, monitoring their progress and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken
• Retaining detailed records and information confidentially in line with the Data Protection Act
• Drafting responses to constituents, Government departments, companies etc.
• Ability to manage a large number of cases simultaneously
• Ability to identify opportunities for surveys/campaigns
• Ability to receive and respond to instruction, and seek guidance when needed
• Assisting with other office tasks as required
Personal Specification - essential unless noted otherwise
• Excellent written (including letters) communication and organisational skills
• Excellent time management, able to work under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines
• Able to manage and prioritise own workload
• Experience of research and a high standard of digital skills
• Ability to work effectively in a small team
• Commitment to aims and values of the Labour Party
• Driving licence and use of a car (desirable)

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
