Job Details

Sarah Dyke MP is looking for a Communications & Community Engagement Officer to support the Communications Manager with key tasks including, creating visual content for Sarah’s work as an MP, updating social media channels, producing online graphics and video content, managing and updating Sarah’s website and helping to produce newsletter content.

The post holder will also be responsible for managing community engagement activity by liaising with individuals, community groups and organisations. The successful applicant should have a proven track record in organising events, community groups liaison and of problem-solving. Experience of diary management is also required.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:
• Manage social media and website content.
• Write copy for various media channels.
• Maintain positive on-going relationships with members of the public, organisations and constituents across the constituency.
• Provide executive support to the MP.
• Relationship building with community organisations.
• Manage and monitor communications with journalists and community organisations.
• Support the management of Sarah’s constituency diary commitments.
• Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public, through a variety of methods.
• Database management and using office software.
• There will be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours, accompany the MP on visits, and travel for work occasionally.

Skills and experience:
• Proven experience of organising events and community engagement sessions.
• Proven track-record of excellent people and customer service skills - ability to deal with constituents and community interest groups in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
• Evidence of strong organisational skills.
• Diary management experience.
• Political awareness and ability to use initiative when appropriate.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce high quality written communications appropriate to the audience.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will take place in the constituency office on Thursday 18th April and will form two parts: 1. A short written task. 2. Standard Q&A.

The successful candidate will be security vetted prior to a start date being given.
