This is an exciting opportunity to join a constituency-based team delivering quality communications and engaging with local community organisations and media to support constituents and raise awareness of issues.
Candidates should have experience in a similar role and be able to provide examples of work they have produced. Michael is looking for a highly motivated individual confident in creating high quality videos and graphics for social media and in writing copy for press releases and other media outlets.
The role will involve:
- Monitoring and updating social media and online presence in the constituency, producing graphics and video content, publicising surgeries and community events
- Managing and responding to social media queries and comments, including casework enquiries
- Monitoring and liaising with local media and preparing press releases on constituency issues
- Outreach to community organisations and coordinating local campaigns
- Assisting with enquiries from constituents by phone, email and at surgeries
- Maintaining records and managing information in line with data protection legislation
- There is a requirement for the role holder to work outside normal office hours and travel for work occasionally (all expenses will be reimbursed)
Essential skills and experiences:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Experience of producing print and digital content including briefings, reports, leaflets, e-newsletters and surveys
- Demonstrable experience producing high quality and engaging video content
- Proven knowledge of social media landscape and managing digital advertising
- Proficient in IT including Microsoft Office and digital creative packages such as Canva and video editing software
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and to adapt to rapidly evolving political situations
- Ability to self-motivate and work to deadlines as part of a small team
Desirable skills and experiences:
- Previous experience of community organising or campaigning
- Knowledge of the Rutherglen and Hamilton West community
- Awareness of current Scottish and UK political issues and how Parliament works
- A commitment to Labour values
Appointment is subject to successfully passing Parliamentary security vetting.
