Job Details

Purpose of the job
This is a split role between Tim Farron MP and the Westmorland, Furness and Eden Liberal Democrats to manage the busy constituency office in the centre of Kendal, co-ordinate work in the constituency, and support the work of the MP, local party and staff. To report regularly to the MP and the Local Party Executive and advise on such measures as are needed to ensure delivery to a high standard against agreed plans and targets.

 

Key responsibilities
Executive Assistant for Tim Farron MP:

  1. Overall management of the Member’s diary, ensuring that the diary is used as the most effective tool to achieve specific objectives.
  2. Responsible for monitoring the budget, keeping the Member informed of financial matters and liaising with IPSA on the Member’s behalf.
  3. Set up regular advice surgeries across the constituency.
  4. Perform effective secretarial and administrative support.
  5. Manage all office administration, ensuring accurate personnel records are kept and notify IPSA of contractual changes as necessary.
  6. Ensure the office is fully equipped on an ongoing basis.
  7. Liaise with groups/personnel in Westminster, within the constituency, and with the general public on the Member’s behalf as necessary.
  8. Manage the process of recruiting and selecting staff.
  9. Oversee the physical aspects of the office, including security, health and safety.
  10. Ensure that records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.

 


Executive Assistant for the Westmorland, Furness and Eden Liberal Democrats:

  1. Assist the Constituency Campaigns Manager in the delivery of the campaign plan.
  2. Oversee all fundraising work and including coordinating the work of the Member.
  3. Assist the Constituency Campaigns Manager with the coordination of volunteers.
  4. Manage the process of recruitment and selection of staff.
  5. Ensure accurate personnel records are kept for local party staff.
  6. Monitor all data protection and health and safety records, and recommend action where needed.

 

In the case of both roles, the successful applicant will be expected to:

  1. Undertake such training as required and recommended.
  2. Undertake any other such duties as the line manager may require to further effective communication, campaigning and organisation.
  3. Work outside of normal office hours when required.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
