Job Details

Shaun Bailey MP is looking to recruit a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to join his office in Westminster.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, confident working independently and as part of a team, as well as having a keen understanding of politics and current affairs, with previous experience of working in a busy parliamentary office.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting Shaun with his work in Parliament and in his role as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chairman of the Conservative Party.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Parliamentary Assistant looking for their next step up during a crucial time in the Parliamentary calendar.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Supervising the Member’s team in Westminster, including overseeing training and development.
• Inbox and Parliamentary diary management, acting as the key point of contact for stakeholders

• Working closely with the Office Manager & Chief of Staff to horizon scan issues and build the overall strategic direction of the Office Team.

• Proactively work with the Constituency Office team to ensure that the MP can fully maximise his time in Parliament to address local issues, lead local campaigns and continue to build strong local incumbency.
• Undertaking research and writing briefings to ensure the Member is accurately informed on key issues.

• Developing and maintaining a strong working knowledge of Parliamentary business including bills, legislation and debates.

• Ensuring the Member is fully briefed on debates, potential questions, and motions to be put to the House.

• Supporting the Member with his role as PPS to the Chairman of the Conservative Party and developing strong working relationships with the Party Chairman’s Office.

• Responding to policy correspondence from constituents.

• Giving advice on policy issues and local developments.

Requirements:
• Be sympathetic to the values of the Conservative Party.
• Previous Parliamentary experience;
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and the Caseworker.mp system.
• Outstanding written and verbal skills, with keen attention to detail.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
