Labour Friends of Israel seeks an experienced, organised and highly motivated person to join our team in a senior leadership position.

You will have significant experience of working in UK politics, a strong interest in Israel and the Middle East, and a good knowledge of the Labour party.

The Deputy Director is responsible for steering and overseeing LFI’s policy, publications and research work. The Deputy Director manages the delivery of LFI’s output, including policy research, to key stakeholders including Parliamentarians, think tanks and academics.

The Deputy Director will support colleagues to oversee LFI’s operations and extensive annual events schedule, including events at Labour Party Conference and the LFI Annual Lunch.

They will also work with colleagues to manage LFI’s political communications and media work. This role will involve travel to Israel and Palestine on LFI delegations.

You will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as an ability to multitask as part of a team. The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with both parliamentarians and members of the public.

The Deputy Director deputises for the Director in their absence and will have line management responsibilities.

The post is full-time on a 12-month, fixed-term contract. It is initially for one year with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A thorough understanding or a very keen interest of the history and contemporary politics of Israel and the Middle East
  • A strong interest in UK politics and a deep awareness of the domestic political environment
  • Experience working in and around parliament, engaging with parliamentarians, civil servants and academics
  • Very strong organisational, efficiency and time management skills
  • Strong leadership, management and motivational skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Commitment to the Labour party’s core aims and values.
