Job Details
As the new MP for Sunderland Central, Lewis wants to establish his office so it:
- Provides the best possible service to people who seek the assistance of their MP;
- Proactively supports & engages the varied communities & organisations of the constituency;
- Helps Lewis advocate effectively in Parliament & in the constituency.
As Office Manager you will lead a small team to achieve those objectives. On Lewis' behalf you will manage staff, budget and establish and oversee office operating procedures. You will represent Lewis including managing relationships with key individuals/organisations. You will set the tone for the staff team - including communicating effectively, sensitively and empathetically in writing and verbally. You will maintain structure to help plan Lewis' work including his diary.

Essential criteria
• A commitment to high standards & providing the best possible service to the people of Sunderland Central
• Experience of managing varied incoming communication (for example casework or correspondence) and ensuring appropriate responses are provided
• Experience of working with/establishing/improving systems & processes
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills
• Demonstrates sensitivity, tact & empathy
• Experience of coordinating or managing staff, with an ability to get the best out of colleagues
• Ability to establish/manage effective external relationships with key individuals and organisations
• Budget management skills
• An understanding of the social & political environment
• An understanding of and sympathy with the values of the Labour Party & the approach of a Labour MP
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates
Interviews will indicatively take place in the week of 12th August but there will be flexibility for shortlisted applicants with prior committments (e.g. holidays) at that time.
