Job Details
Dr Simon Opher MP is seeking an experienced communications professional to join his constituency team in Stroud, reporting to the Chief of Staff. This is a critical role in managing Simon’s external communications by delivering a highly effective messaging and media strategy.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop Simon’s overall communications strategy
- Deliver engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels
- Establish, and continue to develop, appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency.
- Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts
- Prepare media briefings
- Deliver proactive and reactive communications with local, regional and national media channels, including regular local newspaper columns
- Evaluate the impact of external communications activity
- Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press release as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
- Oversee the monitoring and updating of online platforms including the website and social media
- Publicise Simon’s parliamentary duties on social media
- Supervise other members of staff as required, including coaching and mentoring
- Liaise and engage with external providers and suppliers as necessary
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and to travel for work occasionally
Required skills and experience:
- Experience of developing and delivering effective communication strategies, including press and social media, with evidence of successful media campaigns
- Ability to build strong relationships with media and other stakeholders
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with different audiences
- Ability to think strategically about the messaging and impact
- Organisational skills and the ability to keep to deadlines
- Applicants must be sympathetic to the the aims and values of the Labour Party
