Working For: Dr Danny Chambers MP and the Winchester Liberal Democrats

Length of Contract: Permanent with 6-month probationary period

Job Details

An exciting opportunity with the newly-elected Liberal Democrat MP for Winchester, Dr Danny Chambers, and the Winchester LibDems. This important, demanding and rewarding role will help Danny provide a high level of service to his constituents, and enable the Lib Dems provide an effective campaigning organisation.

Full time, 80:20 split between Dr Danny Chambers MP and the Winchester Liberal Democrats.

 

Responsibilities for Dr Danny Chambers MP
Team leadership

  • Lead and maintain a highly professional administrative support function
  • Manage the office team, ensuring accurate personnel records are kept and notifying IPSA of contractual changes as necessary
  • Identify training opportunities and ensure the team maintain and develop knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Ensure close alignment between Westminster-led and constituency-led activities

Operations

  • Deal with security matters, keep abreast of security guidance, maintain the security system, liaise with external bodies as appropriate
  • Ensure the office is fully equipped
  • Manage all aspects of the budget, keeping the MP informed and liaising with IPSA

MP support

  • Overall management of the Member's diary commitments
  • Final sign-off on all relevant delegated areas from the MP
  • Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify and resolve problems
  • Exposure and management of complex cases
  • Liaise with general public/groups/personnel on the MP’s behalf

Responsibilities for Winchester Liberal Democrats

  • Manage LibDem office and staff, ensuring accurate personal records are kept
  • Ensure close alignment between MP, City and County Councillors and candidates
  • Co-ordinate and deliver agreed Winchester Parliamentary, City and County campaign activity
  • Work with other LibDem parties to achieve common campaign objectives
  • There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours, including attending events with the MP as required

Skills required for both roles

  • Two years' experience of working for an MP and managing teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Broad awareness and understanding of current political issues
  • IT competence and ability to learn quickly
  • Sympathy with the aims & values of the Liberal Democrats

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
