Job Details

We are looking to appoint two part time caseworkers to play an important role within the Ilford South constituency office.

The role would be based in the constituency office but remote arrangements with travel to the constituency will be considered. There will also be opportunities for working and training in Parliament.

Key responsibilities will include:
• Analysing patterns of enquiries and producing reports.
• Assisting surgeries and other meetings and following up as appropriate.
• Attending constituency meetings as appropriate.
• Dealing with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required.
• Drafting responses to constituents.
• Ensuring records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with data protection legislation.
• Ensuring that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately.
• Liaising with Government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to resolve issues facing constituents.
• Logging all cases, monitoring progress and ensuring all identified actions are taken.

Skills and abilities
• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
• Sound judgement in dealing with sensitive issues
• Ability to prioritise and manage a large workload independently
• Fluent and clear written style and fluency in drafting correspondence
• Ability to adapt and work effectively as part of a team who manage diverse and varying workloads collaboratively
• Capacity to respond patiently and politely to changing demands from constituents
• Proficiency in MS Office

Desirable experience
• Experience in an MP's office or other busy environment providing frontline support
• Experience of using Caseworker.MP or another case management system

Part-time role is based on 20 hours per week, there is flexibility to increase hours if requested.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally. Applicants should be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
