Job Details

Mike Martin MP is seeking a Senior Caseworker to lead his casework team.

Key responsibilities:

Assist with surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
Engage professionally, confidentially with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, emails and face to face
Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation
Ensure that all cases and decisions are properly documented, writing clear concise reports containing analysis, explanation of the findings and conclusions, and appropriate action plan, to include monitoring and communication procedures.
Exercise a high level of autonomy in reaching decisions on cases based on the evidence
Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
Manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner
Supervise other members of staff including coaching and mentoring
Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the Member is accurately informed on key issues and is aware of trends
Develop knowledge in specialist areas
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally. When applicable, help to manage visits to relevant organisations and manage the MP’s diary appropriately


Essential Skills and Experience:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisational abilities with attention to detail
Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
Empathetic approach with strong interpersonal skills
Good knowledge of IT systems such as MS Office
Discretion and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
Commitment to getting the best outcomes for constituents
Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Liberal Democrat Party


Desirable Skills:

Previous casework or customer service experience
Knowledge of immigration, health, housing, social care and SEND issues
Understanding of local constituency issues
Knowledge of parliamentary and government processes
Additional Information:

Some work outside normal office hours will be required, particularly for MP surgeries
Occasional travel within the constituency or to London may be necessary

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
