Job Details
This is a split role working 2.5 days a week as Communications Officer for Mike Martin MP and 2.5 days a week as Communications Officer for Tunbridge Wells Liberal Democrats Campaigns Team. The role is based in Tunbridge Wells.
Key responsibilities as Communications Officer for Mike Martin MP:
Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency.
Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
Manage and monitor social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level.
Ensure all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner
Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non party-political matters)
Drafting and sending e-newsletter to constituents
Website content management
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Key responsibilities as Communications Officer for Tunbridge Wells Liberal Democrats Campaign Team:
Take responsibility for delivering the party’s campaign plan in Tunbridge Wells constituency
Play a role in developing the campaign strategy and messaging, ensuring that it is executed in all forms of communication
Assist with the design, production, print and coordination of delivery of campaign literature
Deliver a programme of doorstep communication with voters
Organise events, including action days and social events
Oversee the management of the local party website and social media platforms
Attend relevant conferences, training and other meetings as required
Skills required for both roles:
Strong organisational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience of copywriting for different audiences
Ability to prioritise tasks to meet all deadlines
Excellent computer skills with up-to-date knowledge of social media and Microsoft Office. (A knowledge of the following software and platforms would be desirable but not essential: Connect, Lighthouse, and Affinity Publisher)
Ability to engage, motivate, and manage a team of volunteers
Strong awareness and understanding of current political issues
Effective digital design skills
Commitment to the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
