Job Details
As a Councillor and Governance Support Officer, you can make your own powerful contribution to delivering an excellent quality of life for Westminster’s community. You’ll be a key member of a skilled and determined team who provide elected officials with outstanding support and advice. Supporting decision makers to deliver for Westminster, we’re at the heart of all the Council does. We work on the Council’s response to all kinds of big challenges – and you’ll play an influential role.
Working proactively, you will be responsible for the administration of the ward budget programme across a number of wards, including drafting reports for consideration by Councillors, providing advice on applications and maintaining accurate records.
You will take a lead role in supporting a broad portfolio of casework, so you will have the scope to work with every level of the organisation, from junior officers through to our most senior stakeholders including the Executive Team. Maintaining oversight of complaints and casework, you will work in partnership with relevant service areas to resolve issues and conduct investigations into the specifics of each challenge.
In addition, you will support the administration of formal committee meetings, tackling everything from publishing and distributing papers through to taking minutes.
With a background in supporting senior politicians or Director-level staff in an administrative capacity, you will have excellent organisation skills with the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment, rapidly getting to grips with large and complex volumes of information and balancing several workstreams simultaneously. You will also be comfortable handling financial administration, including processing payment requests.
Highly collaborative and personable, you have a demonstrable flair for building good relationships across an organisation at every level. The ability to communicate in tactful, diplomatic ways is essential, keeping in mind the issues facing local government.
With the flexibility to occasionally work into the evening to support our committees or community engagement activities, you will be comfortable working with limited supervision.
