Job Details

Taiwo Owatemi MP is looking for a Communications Officer to join her fast-paced office team.

Main Duties include:

  • Managing, monitoring and updating a social media and online presence. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
  • Respond to and follow up on social media queries and comments.
  • Maintain the MP's website, ensuring all information is up to date.
  • Establish and develop appropriate strategies to manage and maintain the MP's 'brand' across all platforms and proactively seek ways to promote the work of the MP.
  • Develop relationships with national, regional, and local members of the media.
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases and content as required.
  • Liaise with both the Westminster and constituency teams to ensure streamlined messaging.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • There will be a requirement for frequent travel to the constituency. The role holder may need to work outside of normal working hours on occasion.

Skills required:

Essential:

  • Good interpersonal skills, engaging with people and working alongside an established team.
  • Previous experience of working in a Communications or PR role would be ideal.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing a WordPress based website
  • Knowledge and experience of producing and editing video content.
  • Knowledge of software to produce high quality graphics.
  • Self-starter, able to organise independently, and manage own workload.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Desirable: 

  • Knowledge of the Coventry North West constituency.
  • A good grasp of current affairs and political developments.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will take place on the week of September 9th.

The successful applicant will be expected to start as soon as possible after clearing Parliamentary Security Vetting
