Job Details

Damien is looking for a full-time caseworker to be based in his constituency office - Bristol North East. This role will be a front facing role to ensure an excellent customer service Damien’s constituents.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with people and a background in customer advocacy or advice services.

It is essential that the candidate has excellent communication skills.

Key responsibilities
• Dealing with enquiries from constituents face to face, by telephone, e-mail and letter.
• Logging all casework, actioning promptly and monitoring the updates. 
• Confidentiality is of high importance.
• Corresponding with organisations and agencies to ensure that the relevant information is gathered.
• Draft responses to constituents, stakeholders and organisations.
• Ensure an up-to-date knowledge is maintained of the guidelines/legislation to assist with responding to constituent’s.
• Assist the MP with surgeries and other meetings.
• Assist the work of the MP’s office with the administrative requirements for local campaigns and issues within the constituency.
• Regularly produce casework reports to provide an up-to-date position to the MP.
• Assist with any other administrative tasks as required.
• Attend events as required

Skills & Experience
• Experience of customer service and the ability to interact with people in a kind, sympathetic and professional manner.
• Proven communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to manage and prioritise own workload.
• Ability to work within a changing environment, that is fast moving and reliant on multi-tasking.
• High standard of IT use, e.g. casework management systems, (or similar) and Microsoft Office programmes.
• Proven ability to interact with colleagues, constituents and stakeholders. 
• Ability to give clear advice on specific areas e.g. housing, immigration and benefits.
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working office hours and travel for work occasionally.

Due to the front facing nature of this role, this is primarily an in-person role.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
