Job Details

Jess Asato MP is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Parliamentary Intern to join her Westminster office.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in Parliament or politics, as you support Jess in her parliamentary duties.

The successful candidate will be highly organised and able to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.

 

Duties

  • Undertake research and analysis on relevant subjects as directed
  • Prepare briefing notes for meetings and speeches
  • Draft parliamentary questions
  • Keep abreast of parliamentary business and political developments
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks, including inbox and diary management
  • Assist with policy casework as required
  • Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate
  • Undertake other duties as required

The role will involve some working outside of normal hours and may involve some travel to the constituency.

 

Skills, experience, and qualities

  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
  • Superb written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of the legislative and party political system of the UK, as well as an understanding of party politics
  • Ability to deal with constituents and stakeholders in a compassionate, understanding, and sensitive manner
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively, and to work well and keep calm under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong team-player, who can work well with others and independently with minimal supervision
  • Politically sensitive and able to work with tact and discretion
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party

Interviews will take place in Parliament on the week commencing 30 September 2024, with the successful applicant starting as soon as possible after that.
