Job Details
Catherine West is looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working person to join her busy office for an internship. This fixed-term post is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain experience and develop skills across a range of responsibilities within a Labour MP's office. The role will involve working in Catherine’s Westminster office and constituency office.
Please note, the successful candidate will need to be available to work throughout the week of Catherine’s 2025 summer school (from 7-11 July 2025 tbc).
Person Specification:
• A good working knowledge of policy issues and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to deal with the public in an understanding and compassionate manner.
• High quality written work with an ability to work quickly, accurately, and independently. An ability to distil complex policy issues into clear, concise written communication.
• A commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
• Understanding and interest in how public services work.
• Events organising experience highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Hornsey & Friern Barnet constituency desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assisting in drafting responses to campaign and policy letters.
• Providing basic administrative support including telephone answering and note taking.
• Responding to constituents’ enquiries and cases including carrying out the necessary research to respond to policy and casework enquiries.
• Helping to organise Catherine West’s popular summer school for 16–19-year-olds, taking place in July 2025. This will include liaising with schools, students and speakers in the months leading up to the event, working with Catherine and her Policy & Casework Assistants to develop an engaging and informative programme for the week, and providing administrative support throughout the summer school week.
• Accompanying Catherine to advice surgeries and other meetings as necessary.

Interview/Start Dates
Shortlisted applicants will first be asked to do a written exercise remotely. Interviews will then take place during the week commencing Monday 25 November 2024.
Start date: from 6 January 2025.
