Job Title: Constituency Communications Manager/Communications Officer

Salary: In line with IPSA pay scales
Length of Contract: 6 months with view to becoming permanent. This role is split between Alison Bennett MP (3-4 days/wk) and Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats (1 day/wk)
Job Details
As the Constituency Communications Manager for Alison Bennett MP you will:
- Be responsible for the management and development of the external communication presence of the MP Office
- Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on non-party-political matters)
- Manage the MP’s website contents
- Prepare media briefings
- Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts
- Support the MP’s office and objectives through highly effective communication and social media presence. Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally
Skills & experience:
- Excellent standard of written & spoken English
- Highly organised self-starter who understands the importance of working collaboratively
- Creative eye & technical skills to deliver good photos, videos, graphics & stories
- Proven ability to develop & deliver a communications strategy
- Passion for politics and sympathy with the aims & values of the Liberal Democrats
As the Communications Officer for Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats you will:
- Develop the communications strategy for Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats working with councillors & activists across all levels of government
- Work closely with the campaign organiser & volunteers to develop key messages & write copy for literature, press releases & social media content
- Review all output to ensure consistency of messaging & adherence to the strategy
- Work with the Membership Development Officer & Campaigns Organiser to build our communications with our members & volunteers
- Help develop and promote events including fundraising, election launches
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours
Skills & experience:
- Evidence of a passion for politics & support for the Liberal Democrats
- An eye for a story & the ability to generate interest in it
- Evidence of outstanding organisational skills
- Experience working with volunteers, or with large teams
- Confident user of IT, willing to learn new software
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
