Job Details
The CCSA is seeking a highly motivated and politically astute Senior UK External Affairs Officer.
Responsibilities
- Implement the CCSA’s external affairs strategy to influence public perception, policy and decision-making at the national level.
- Deploy appropriate tactics for effective, regular engagement, both written and oral, to raise awareness of the CCSA’s policy positions and strengthen its reputation with external stakeholders.
- Track the progress of Bills and other parliamentary activity, with appropriate interventions as required.
- Conduct regular monitoring of Parliament and the wider public affairs landscape, identifying opportunities and risks.
- Draft letters and briefings to key political audiences about CCSA activity and policy developments.
- Provide secretariat function for the CCUS APPG.
- Produce written briefings for senior leaders in the CCSA and our membership.
- Ensure stakeholder management, engagement and communications processes are comprehensively recorded.
- Deliver the CCSA’s media engagement programme and build relationships with journalists.
- Develop and deliver thought leadership opportunities, working closely with internal teams, members and external experts to develop compelling content.
- Manage the CCSA’s press office function, both in drafting press releases and statements, as well as securing interviews for the CCSA’s CEO.
- Produce compelling social media content and grow followers.
- Project manage events, including the CCSA’s Party Conference Programme.
- Represent the CCSA and our members at external industry and Parliamentary events, building a network of contacts.
- Work with other members of the CCSA communications team to ensure activities are integrated within overall communication strategies.
- Arrange regular Working Group meetings with Members.
- Assist in the management of newsletter content and delivery.
Desirable criteria
- A post-graduate qualification in politics, journalism or other related discipline.
- Previous experience of working in energy and climate change, particularly carbon capture and storage and hydrogen.
- Experience working for an MP and an understanding of UK Government and the policy making processes.
- Comfortable in a deadline-driven environment.
