Job Details
Working from the Parliamentary office with the Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Researcher, the Parliamentary Assistant will support with the day to day running of a busy Westminster office. Responsibilities include diary, inbox, and administrative support, preparing briefings and questions, and responding to the dynamic needs of an MP's Parliamentary office.
The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to manage an exceptionally busy MP's schedule. A solid understanding of Parliament and the political landscape is essential and experience with the Parliamentary business cycle is desirable.
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours, including assisting with events with the MP as requested.
Person specification
• Excellent organisational, IT and administrative skills
• Able to manage and prioritise a demanding workload
• Experience of producing formal letters, briefings and notes of meetings
• Strong communication skills and experience of dealing with organisations at all levels
• Previous experience of working in a parliamentary office or similar environment
• A good understanding of Parliament and the political landscape
• Experience of working with others as part of a wider team
• Excellent communication skills
Additional Details:
This position is based between Beccy’s Parliament and constituency offices. The role may require occasional work outside normal hours, including assisting with events alongside the MP as needed.
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
