Job Details
Rt Hon Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking and motivated individual to take on the role of Administrative officer, working in his Westminster Parliamentary office on a preferably Full-time basis but will consider part-time for the right candidate (Monday-Thursday are days required in the office).
Key responsibilities to support Julian’s work as a Member of Parliament will include, but are not limited to:
Supporting the Office Manager
Assisting with policy responses
Assist in the compilation of briefing packs
Database management using office software (e.g. Caseworker and Microsoft Office) to handle administrative cases
Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public, through a variety of methods
Exposure to complex cases
Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries
Minute taking
Open, handle and action email, post and social media enquiries
Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence
Respond to enquiries by telephone, e mail and social media, passing on queries to another team members/MP as appropriate
Additional responsibilities:
Assist with booking tours and handling ticket enquiries
Follow Parliamentary business and provide timely updates
Carry out research as required
The successful candidate will have the following:
Strong written and oral communication skills
Good telephone manner
Highly organised
Good analytical skills and attention to detail
Reliable, efficient and fast worker with a good attitude
A trustworthy team player with a strong work ethic
Candidates should be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
