Job Details

Josh Dean MP, the new MP for Hertford and Stortford, is seeking a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to oversee his Parliamentary programme.

Based in the Parliamentary office the Senior Parliamentary Assistant will undertake research and preparation for Parliamentary business on behalf of the MP. They will liaise with constituency staff to ensure that the MP is fully briefed about local matters and will have a strategic role in managing workloads.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with Head of Office (based in constituency office) to deliver on MP’s objectives and ensure Parliamentary activity reflects local interests.
  • Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
  • Analyse, evaluate, and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
  • Provide high quality, efficient and effective support to the MP and interest groups as required.
  • To advise and ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House.
  • Research local, regional or national issues to support the MPs' work
  • Liaise with key groups/personnel at Westminster.
  • Undertake supervisory responsibility as required.
  • Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; pro-actively identify problems and resolve them.
  • Produce and present high-quality written reports, briefing notes, and professional advice.
  • Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation, including impact on the local constituency Manage and progress complex cases
  • Prepare and present results for the purposes of briefing notes for committees, parliamentary questions, articles and press releases
  • There may be requirement to work outside of the normal working hours, including attending events with the MP as required.

Experience and skills

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience of researching and writing reports
  • Experience of managing stakeholders
  • Proven strategic project management skills
  • Ability to delegate and manage others
  • Knowledge of how Parliament works
  • Previous experience of working in Parliament is desirable.
