You could be the very person Mr Gardiner is looking for if you have excellent research skills and would like to help with his parliamentary work.
Duties
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
• Develop and maintain current knowledge database on all environmental issues.
• Identify and flag relevant areas of parliamentary business including select committee inquiries, forthcoming legislation and motions for debate.
• Draft parliamentary questions and notes for speeches.
• Analyse, evaluate, and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues.
• Manage the MP’s select committee and other diary commitments.
• Monitor local, regional, and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues.
• Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.
• Monitor social media activity and report on any relevant trends and update the website.
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists, and pressure groups on environmental issues.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder occasionally to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work.
Skill Set
Would suit someone with proven research ability in the fields of sustainability, environmental management, climate change, natural history and biodiversity.
Must be an enthusiastic lover of Nature with a campaigning mind set and an ability to apply critical insights to environmental policy.
Terms and Conditions
40 hours per week
Based in Westminster Parliamentary Office
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
