Job Details
Fred Thomas MP, Member of Parliament for Plymouth Moor View, is looking for a full time intern to work in his constituency office, on a fixed term contract for one year. This role would suit someone who can display initiative, is willing to embrace a range of different tasks, is a team player and cares about Plymouth.
Fred has an office within the constituency from which his team is based. The team work between home and the office. All staff are expected to be able to attend the constituency office to work.
Flexibility to work on the occasional evening and weekend will be required, which will be compensated with time off in lieu.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the running of Fred’s local and national campaigns
- Assisting the casework team in dealing with a large number of standard queries by telephone, email or face-to-face
- Managing and progressing your own varied portfolio of casework, including logging cases, taking appropriate actions promptly and monitoring progress
- Drafting policy responses to constituents
- Accompanying the MP to advice surgeries and visits in Plymouth
- Undertaking research and drafting briefings as required on subjects relevant to Fred’s constituency and policy interests
Fred is looking for someone who has:
- Strong written, communication and analytical skills with a good telephone manner and attention to detail - excellent command of written English is required to produce high quality correspondence
- Ability to carry out tasks quickly and to a high standard
- Knowledge of Plymouth and the services available to local people
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and work well as part of a wider team, demonstrating a positive and flexible attitude

This role will commence as soon as security clearance is confirmed.
