Job Details

Clive Jones has quickly built a reputation as a hard-working local champion, in Parliament and the constituency. Caseworkers are the vital interface between constituents and the MP, helping resolve issues and prioritise cases and actions for the MP’s attention.
This fixed-term vacancy exists to meet the high level of casework currently underway.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess correspondence from constituents to identify how issues might be addressed.
  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases, including (after training) identifying welfare and safeguarding issues.
  • Draft responses to constituents and letters to agencies and ministers.
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately.
  • Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation.
  • Assist the MP and other members of the team with other tasks, including casework briefings, constituency events.

Skills and Experience:
Essential:

  • A desire and willingness to help and express empathy.
  • A high standard of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent cases, ensuring important deadlines are met.
  • Competence in office applications.

Desirable:

  • An interest in politics and social justice.
  • Previous experience helping people in need, as a volunteer or employee.
  • Familiarity with the Wokingham Constituency and surrounding area.
  • Sympathy with the values and policies of the Liberal Democrats.

There may be a requirement to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally, including accompanying the MP to surgeries and visits within the constituency.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
