Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Job Details

Layla Moran MP is looking for a highly motivated full-time parliamentary assistant in her busy Westminster office.

Key tasks:
• Work closely with the MP, caseworkers, the local party and local councillors to identify, develop and execute primarily local as well as national campaigns.
• Draft speeches, parliamentary questions, Urgent Question applications, Early Day Motions and amendments to legislation.
• Produce media releases, op-eds and articles on local and national issues, and coordinate proactive and reactive media activity strategically.
• Manage messaging across multiple platforms, including social media, website, and newsletter.
• Draft and manage correspondence and casework on policy issues when needed.
• Monitor media and parliamentary activity and identify opportunities for Layla to further constituency issues and campaigns in the media and in Parliament.
• Support Layla's work as Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee, liasing with the clerk team as necessary.
• Manage the MP’s diary, event organisation and office administration.
• Supervise university placement interns and volunteers.
• Occasional work from Layla’s constituency office in Abingdon may be required.

Key requirements:
• Excellent writing, grammar, and communications skills
• Strong knowledge of Parliamentary processes and procedure
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work well both in a team and independently, in a high-pressure environment
• Knowledge of and confidence with basic IT programmes
• The ability to take the initiative and prioritise workload under pressure
• A commitment to the values of the Liberal Democrats

Desirable:
• Experience of managing others
• Experience of working with the media
• Knowledge of, or a desire to learn about, Oxford West and Abingdon
