Job Details
Natasha Irons MP is looking for an experienced and responsible individual to lead her casework team and support the running of her office.
This is a permanent role following a successful probationary period.
This is a permanent, ideally full-time position but 3 to 4 days a week can be considered. The role will be based in Natasha’s constituency office in Croydon, close to local transport including tram and bus connections to East Croydon station. We are happy to discuss options for flexible working at any stage.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:-
- Manage a large caseload of complex cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner.
- Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate.
- Ensure cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
- Ensure all cases and decisions are properly documented, writing clear concise reports containing analysis, explanation of the findings and conclusions, and an appropriate action plan, to include monitoring and communication procedures.
- Exercise a high level of autonomy in reaching decisions on cases based on the evidence.
- Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters.
- Provide briefings for the MP and advise on where complex issues need escalation.
- Respond professionally, sensitively, confidentially and with integrity to routine correspondence and enquiries.
- Manage other members of staff including training, coaching and mentoring.
- Assist with surgeries and other casework and resident related meetings and follow up as appropriate.
Skills Required
- Well organised with experience of working in an MP’s office or similar caseworker role.
- Polite, confident and with an empathetic approach to public engagement and a good telephone manner.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Office 365 and casework management software.
- Ability to handle difficult or emotive situations in a sensitive manner.
- Interest and willingness to learn and keep up to date about relevant casework areas e.g. welfare, pensions, immigration.
