Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Job Details

Dame Nia Griffith MP requires a keen and innovative person to work 20 hours a week (based in parliament) to undertake research, deal with policy issues, and develop and implement communication strategies. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, well-organised, attentive to detail, have good interpersonal skills and be thoroughly conversant with current affairs and political thinking, at both UK and Welsh level.


Key duties and responsibilities:
• Undertake research to support the MP’s work
• Respond to constituents’ enquiries
• Take a pro-active approach to communication strategies, including press and social media
• Undertake routine office duties including liaising with other staff


The ideal candidate will have:
• A thorough knowledge of the division of responsibilities between UK and Welsh Government and how this impacts on responding to constituents
• An interest in LGBT+ and wider women and equalities issues
• Proficiency in IT, including data management, websites and social media
• Excellent research skills, acute political awareness, an ability to work to tight deadlines and pay keen attention to detail
• Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
