Margaret Mullane MP is looking for a motivated and dynamic Comms and Community Engagement Lead to join her constituency team for 3 days per week.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support Margaret’s work in Dagenham and Rainham by engaging with residents, key community stakeholders, building on a successfully established volunteer model, organising events, and addressing local concerns.

The successful candidate will be based in the constituency office. A full UK driving licence is desirable. Hours and days are subject to negotiation but must include Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with community groups, organisations, and leaders.
  • Further develop and manage the MPs volunteer network.
  • Organise constituency events, including but not limited to, coffee mornings, single issue meetings, litter picking sessions, petitioning and street stalls.
  • Coordinate and support publicity for community events and activities.
  • Produce and organise the delivery of focus surveys which will inform the members work.
  • Designing and delivering an ongoing programme of communication both digital and physical.
  • Attend meetings and events with stakeholders and residents on behalf of the member.
  • General office administration and GDPR compliance.

Person Specification:

  • The successful applicant should have a proven track record in organising meetings, events, and liaising with community groups.
  • Proactive and highly organised – they will be able to manage multiple and conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have the ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivated and able to manage own workload.
  • Confidence and ability to lead, mobilise and manage volunteers is essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. Confident, approachable, and empathetic in public engagement.
  • Must be proficient with IT including all Microsoft Office programmes with experience using mail-merge and spreadsheets.
  • They will also need to be a strong team player and pro-active in delivering projects as well as keeping the team and member up to date on the status of projects.
  • Good knowledge of and keen interest in issues that affect the local community.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Additional Information:
This role requires flexible working, including occasional evenings and weekends.
