Job Details
The Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP is looking for a highly motivated and hardworking Parliamentary Assistant to support him in his Parliamentary work. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual with excellent communication skills, and a strong political awareness.
The post holder will work 2-3 days a week across Monday to Thursday. Hours and days of work to be discussed with the successful candidate. There may be a requirement to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues
- Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate
- Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
- Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. This would include issues of importance both nationally and in the local constituency.
- Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
- Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency
- Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material
- Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc
- Project Work
- Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed
- Diary support
Person Specification
- The successful candidate should have experience of working in an MP’s office, political environment or similar
- Be positive, self-motivated and able to manage own workload
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Ability to work swiftly and independently, with a strong eye for detail
- Be proactive and highly organised with the ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong political judgement with the ability to think and plan strategically
- Share the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party
