About African Child Trust (ACT)

ACT is a growing international development charity with a Christian ethos, dedicated to educating disadvantaged children and empowering widows in sub-Saharan Africa. Since 1998, we’ve supported children from primary school through to university and equipped widows with income-generating skills to sustain their families. Working with our local partners, we implement projects in education, livelihoods, sanitation, and health across eight African countries: Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Internship Opportunities

We are looking for outgoing and self-motivated individuals who will fit easily into our team and are passionate about making a difference in the world. These roles are ideal for graduates wanting to gain experience in international development and charity sector. Gap year opportunities for students and current undergraduates will be considered.

The two available roles are:

  • Communications & Social Media
  • Supporter Care & Administration

The ideal candidates will:

  • Have excellent written communication skills;
  • Be creative and confident in putting forward and discussing new ideas;
  • Be highly organised with strong time management and task prioritisation skills;
  • Have a desire both to learn about and to contribute to our work;
  • Be proactive with a positive attitude and have strong interpersonal skills;
  • Have experience using MS Office.

Key responsibilities

Communications & Social Media

  • Writing high-quality blogs and news articles, backed by relevant research.
  • Designing social media graphics in Canva and scheduling posts using Buffer.
  • Engaging with online supporters and followers.
  • Promoting ACT's events via social media platforms.
  • Analysing social media performance and adjusting content accordingly.

Supporter Care & Administration

  • Planning and creating internal and external fundraising materials for ACT events.
  • Engaging with supporters around fundraising activities, events, and campaigns.
  • Supporting donor and sponsor communications and relationship management.
  • Sending personalised messages to acknowledge supporter donations.
  • Inputting information on our CRM system.

HoursFlexible, but the successful applicants should be willing to travel to our office once week.
