Salary: £29,421 - £35,017 (PO); £33,500 (DO)

Length of Contract: Permanent (PO); Fixed for 12 month (DO)

Job Details

1. Press Officer

Key responsibilities

  • Writing media comments, releases and columns
  • Briefing MSPs prior to broadcast interviews
  • Helping to plan and organise media coverage
  • Generating ideas for press releases and social media content
  • Supporting MSPs by attending media events
  • Building strong relationships with journalists and MSPs
  • Working with Digital Media team to draft and prepare social media content
  • Managing provision of communications and press advice
  • Implementing media and digital communication strategy
  • Organising and arranging interviews and press conferences as specified
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
  • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations, and written materials

Requirements

  • Good organisational skills, an ability to be proactive, and strong teamwork skills are essential
  • You will be capable of monitoring media developments and sourcing information from a range of channels
  • A journalism or PR background is desirable but not essential
  • Experience producing social media content is desirable but not essential
  • Graphic design and/or video production skills are desirable but not essential

2. Digital Officer

Key responsibilities

  • Creating original and engaging content for the MSP Group’s online output
  • Organising relevant content for Scottish Conservative elected representatives for their own accounts as required
  • Liaising closely with colleagues on digital output to ensure consistent messaging
  • Working with the wider media team to build strong digital content as part of the overall communications strategy
  • Undertake further media office duties as required, including being part of the weekend rota

Requirements

  • Digital media experience
  • Experience of delivering a media strategy
  • A working knowledge of Photoshop and experience with Adobe software is essential
  • Ability to be creative, generating original graphics and videos for online use
  • Ability to co-ordinate a wide range of requests for social media content and work across all platforms
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to deadlines
  • Ability to work closely with others both in the media team and other departments
  • Good political judgement
