Job Details
The main purpose of the role is to support the casework of Lee Dillon MP by providing information, advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues through liaison with Government agencies, local councils, the voluntary sector and others to resolve matters.
Caseworkers play an important role in an MP’s office, supporting the MP to ensure that constituents’ concerns are heard and actioned. This role is part-time (19 hours per week), flexible working arrangements are available for the right candidate. You will be working in the Newbury constituency office.
Under the supervision of the Senior Caseworker, you will be responsible for managing a large caseload ensuring actions are taken and constituents are kept informed throughout. Previous experience working in a similar role, interacting with the public and advocating on their behalf would be advantageous but willingness to learn is more important. The successful candidate will be an effective and empathetic communicator, both in writing and in person, and have a passion for helping the residents of Newbury.
Key responsibilities
• Assist at surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate. From time to time these might be held at locations other than the constituency office
• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required
• Draft bespoke responses to constituents and create templates for regular issues
• Deal with each case promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in line with Lee Dillon’s aims and objectives
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
• Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially, in line with data protection legislation
• Be a supportive team member, assisting in any other tasks that might be needed. This might occasionally involve working outside standard office hours and/or travelling to another location
