Job Details
Tan Dhesi MP is seeking a motivated, well-organised individual with strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills—and a passion for helping others—to join his dedicated team as a full-time Caseworker (maternity cover), expected to last until at least March 2026.
As a key member of the team, you will support constituents with a range of issues, including benefits, housing, healthcare, and immigration.
Key responsibilities:
- Gather relevant information to help resolve casework
- Respond to public enquiries via phone and email on matters such as housing, benefits, and school placements
- Attend constituency meetings and surgeries; represent the MP when required
- Analyse and interpret data to keep the MP informed on key issues
- Draft and progress individual casework
- Maintain confidential records in line with the Data Protection Act
- Log, monitor, and follow up on all casework actions
- Identify trends in enquiries and produce reports
- Perform general administrative tasks (e.g. photocopying, filing, correspondence)
The ideal candidate will have:
- A genuine passion for helping others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in another language, particularly Urdu, Punjabi or Hindi
- A solid understanding of the UK political system and local government
- Knowledge of housing, benefits, and immigration systems
- Awareness of current affairs and local constituency issues
- Strong IT skills, including casework software (e.g. Caseworker.mp)
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
- Discretion, professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
- Alignment with Labour Party values
- Experience managing a caseload and prioritising tasks
- Previous work in an MP’s office or similar public service environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team
