Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity to support Luke Murphy MP across his work in Westminster and Basingstoke. The role spans speechwriting, policy research, stakeholder engagement, communications, and casework; ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced political environment.
You’ll work closely with both Westminster and constituency teams, ensuring a joined-up approach. Excellent writing skills, strong political judgement, and the ability to stay organised under pressure are essential. Experience in or around Parliament is highly desirable, as is confidence with social media and video editing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft speeches, briefings, questions, and policy materials across Luke’s areas of focus (e.g. SEND, energy, housing, NHS).
- Monitor parliamentary activity and identify timely opportunities for contributions.
- Manage social media, newsletters, press releases, and short-form video content aligned with Luke’s voice.
- Respond empathetically to constituents and support complex casework, using Caseworker.mp.
- Liaise with local organisations, government departments, and campaigners.
- Plan and support events, visits, and roundtables.
- Coordinate office activity, support diary planning, and supervise junior staff where appropriate.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of Parliament and how MPs engage with legislation, debates, and committees.
- Demonstrated research and writing ability across a range of audiences.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing demands.
- Experience with social media and producing digital content.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in Parliament, public affairs, or political campaigning.
- Knowledge of issues affecting Basingstoke or a willingness to learn.
- Familiarity with Labour values and policy priorities.
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders.
