Job Details
We are seeking a parliamentary intern to join the office of Lucy Rigby KC MP. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience of parliamentary processes whilst supporting Lucy's work both in Westminster and the constituency. The placement will run for either three months or six months, depending on availability, from late July. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
This role would suit someone who is detail-oriented, motivated and works well as part of a team. It will be based in Westminster with occasional travel to Northampton.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Casework
- Assist with research on policy issues relevant to the MP's work
- Draft responses to policy enquiries from constituents, organisations and stakeholders
- Monitor relevant policy developments and prepare briefing notes
- Attend and take notes at relevant meetings and events
Administrative Support
- Manage the MP's email inbox, filtering and prioritising correspondence
- Coordinate the MP's diary and schedule meetings alongside the constituency team
- Handle telephone enquiries professionally and efficiently
- Provide administrative support for parliamentary events
Digital Content Creation
- Create engaging video content for social media platforms showcasing the MP's parliamentary and constituency work
- Film and edit short videos highlighting key policy initiatives and campaigns
- Manage the MP's social media presence across multiple platforms
- Develop creative digital content strategies to enhance constituent engagement
- Monitor digital analytics and prepare regular reports on online engagement
- Support the MP's online presence through website updates and e-newsletters
Skills
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
- Superb written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of the legislative and political system of the UK and of party politics
- Ability to deal with constituents and other stakeholders in a compassionate, understanding, and sensitive manner
- Ability to prioritise tasks effectively, and to work well and keep calm under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Politically sensitive and able to work with tact and discretion
- Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party
