The role will present the successful candidate with the opportunity to be at the forefront of the public policy debate on health and care reform in the UK.
You will be responsible for developing and leading our programme of work across Health and Social Care. You will have significant experience in delivering high-quality and impactful policy outcomes through effective communication, advocacy and research outputs. You will have extensive experience in communicating research findings and organisational positions in national print and broadcast media. You will manage and maintain contacts with individuals at the highest levels of Government, the health and care sector, academia, the voluntary sector, private sector and the media.
The successful candidate will be someone who has the courage and imagination to take on the biggest policy questions, identifying and evidencing major reforms that would transform our health service – even when these go beyond the usual parameters of the debate. Policy Exchange’s long-standing proposal to abolish NHS England, recently announced by the Health Secretary, is an example of how the Health and Social Care Unit has successfully had transformational impact upon the system.
Recent, previous holders of the role have gone on to become Special Advisers in Government and to leadership roles in consultancy and the life sciences sector.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for:
• Providing strategic direction and leading on programmes of work in health and care, involving the development and delivery of research proposals and outputs (including briefings and policy reports).
• Developing partnerships with external organisations to support programmes of work.
• Communicating key messages and research findings in print and broadcast media.
• Maintaining relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders, including maintaining cross-party dialogue with politicians and policymakers.
• The organisation, running, and chairing of both public and private events and seminars.
• Managing internal (and, sometimes external) colleagues and consultants to collaborate on projects.
