Job Title: Campaigner

Working For: Global Action Plan

Location: London

Salary: £36,000 - £45,000

Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

Are you a campaigner looking to work on the intersection of climate justice and tech accountability? Are you motivated to confront the destructive business model of the most powerful companies on the planet? Do you have experience working with and within communities to campaign for change at the local and national levels? Are you able to quickly get up to speed on a new policy brief and communicate this brief to a range of audiences?

Global Action Plan is looking for an experienced campaigner to run key elements of our campaign to limit the un-checked roll out of environmentally destructive, hyperscale data centres. Key objectives of the campaign include:
• building capacity of local communities resisting data centres
• successfully challenging individual planning decisions
• securing new environmental obligations on data centre developers, and
• winning a national data centre strategy.

As part of our ‘Online Climate’ programme, you will work with colleagues across the organisation and externally to put communities at the heart of this campaign, working with people already resisting data centre developments in their locality to centre their experiences in our work, build their capacity & link them to a nationwide campaign effort. You will also catalyse new resistance where major data centre developments are proposed. You will be the key person responsible for ensuring the lived experiences of these communities inform and drive the campaign from the strategic to tactical level.

You may not be a digital policy specialist, but you will have a keen eye for detail and a demonstrable understanding of the basics of UK energy & climate policy, and planning. You will be able to carry out high quality desk research, brief and commission specialist research, and have a willingness to think creatively about how to extract information from a notoriously secretive industry.

You will also have a strong grasp of politics and strategic communications, understanding both the pitfalls facing this campaign given the Government’s enthusiasm for the roll-out of digital infrastructure (and their willingness to overcome any perceived NIMBYism), and the campaigning opportunities presented by their commitment to rapid power sector decarbonisation.

Closing Date: 14 July 2025

Interview/Start Dates

The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 14 July 2025 and interviews are expected to be held week commencing 21 July 2025.
