Job Details

Chris Ward, Labour MP for Brighton Kemptown & Peacehaven, is recruiting a Parliamentary Assistant, to be based in his Westminster office.

Core resposnibilities include:

• Support the MP in all parliamentary activity
• Lead on the drafting of policy correspondence and responses to constituent enquires
• Draft briefing packs and parliamentary research
• Have a working knowledge of relevant legislation and parliamentary business
• Assist with arrangements for parliamentary and constituency events
• Diary management (parliamentary and constituency)
• MP inbox management
• Proactively assist with the MPs’ parliamentary campaigns, including by drafting Parliamentary Written Questions, updates to constituents, and leading on strategic planning
• Support the MP during in-person Parliamentary events
• Ensure the MP remains briefed and informed on parliamentary and local issues.

Prior experience of working for an MP is desirable, but not essential. 

 

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
