Job Details

Neil Coyle, Member of Parliament for Bermondsey & Old Southwark, is looking for a highly motivated Snr Caseworker to support the work of his busy constituency office. The successful applicant will have experience in a similar role & possess the ability to manage a large workload & be administratively self-sufficient.

Key responsibilities:

• Triage & manage a large caseload & ensure all cases are dealt with in a swift, sensitive & confidential manner
• Maintain accurate records, adhering to the principles of GDPR & the Data Protection Act
• To provide information, advice & support to constituents on a variety of issues & liaise with government agencies, the voluntary sector & others to help resolve matters for constituents.
• Deal with daily queries from Neil’s constituents, constituency organisations and businesses
• Draft responses & respond to constituents on behalf of the Member & maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines & legislation
• Liaise with the team as well as relevant groups, organisations & businesses within the constituency & communicate appropriately with internal & external contacts, including councillors
• Organise weekly surgeries in the office & community at a range of locations carrying out actions & keeping constituents up to date on the progress of their cases
• Identify enquiry patterns or emerging local issues & suggest proactive campaigns to address these issues
• Attend meetings on the MP’s behalf on occasion
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours & travel for work occasionally

Person specification:

• Empathic, tactful & sensitive when dealing with constituent enquiries, with an ability to prioritise workload, working to tight deadlines
• Able to work effectively within a busy team
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills & confident interacting with people at all levels
• Competent using digital software, including Microsoft Office, Caseworker & social media sites
• Experience of housing, immigration & welfare issues is welcome
• Sympathetic to the aims & values of the Labour Party

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
