Job Title: Constituency Assistant and Communications Officer

Job Details

• Deputise for the Parliamentary Assistant during periods of absence

• Support the work of the Parliamentary Assistant and work closely with them.
• Plan and manage the MP's constituency visit programme, including identifying potential visits, responding to visit requests and agreeing with the MP the prioritisation of visits.
• Maintain positive on-going relationships with individuals and organisations requesting or involved with arranging a visit from the MP.
• Maintain the MP's constituency calendar.
• Assist the constituency casework team by arranging time for the MP to meet with constituents where necessary to progress casework
• Make arrangements for visits to have appropriate briefing material, staffing and security
• Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face.
• Provide generalist admin support, including checking parliamentary inbox

Key responsibilities — Communications Officer


• Plan the MP's communications, preparing press releases and online content as required to meet publication deadlines (on constituency, non-party political matters). Often working closely with the Parliamentary Assistant.
• Monitor media coverage and liaise with media agencies.
• Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
• Manage and monitor social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level. Ensure all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner


Key responsibilities — Common to both roles


• Support the work of the MP.
• Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally. Whilst based in the constituency, the role will require occasional work in Westminster.
