Job Details

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join Miatta Fahnbulleh’s busy Parliamentary team to take on a role which blends policy and research support with assisting with the administrative running of the office.

Although experience in Parliament or politics is desirable, it is not required. The relevant candidate should have experience which allows them to evidence that they can meet all of the key skills required.

Key skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong problem solver, who is able to think creatively about how to deal with issues in a manner which will advance the MP’s priorities.
  • Ability to deal with constituents and other stakeholders in a compassionate, understanding, and sensitive manner.
  • Identify with the aims and values of the Labour Party and Miatta Fahnbulleh MP.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the portfolio of policy casework, ensuring that these are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face.
  • Give advice on policy issues.
  • Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency.
  • Support with managing the MP's email inbox, filtering and prioritising correspondence.
  • Diary Management.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
  • Provide generalist admin support.
  • Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions.
  • Support the MP's online presence by managing social media and through website updates, newsletters and articles.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate.
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
