Job Details

Supporting Gregor to be an active, impactful and approachable MP, the Constituency Assistant will support Gregor’s activity in Livingston constituency, including: diary management, responding to policy enquiries, communications support, identifying opportunities for Gregor to progress issues that matter to local people, and producing brefings.

Key responsibilities
• Effective diary management and admin support in Livingston constituency
• Prepare and present first draft briefing notes for meetings, press releases, parliamentary questions etc
• Identify opportunitites for the MP to progress issues that matter to local people
• Work with colleagues in the constituency to identify potential campaigns from case work
• Maintain very positive relationships including with constituents and other offices
• Monitor local, regional and national media and social media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
• Respond to correspondence, as directed by Caseworker and Office Manager
• Undertake relevant research
• Efficient data management to ensure compliance with data protection legislation
• Regular work outside of normal working hours and occasional travel
• Take a proactive role in planning, coordinating, and delivering local campaigns and projects that reflect key priorities, including identifying opportunities for engagement, drafting communications, and monitoring progress.
• Social media strategy and content creation to ensure effective promotion of campaigns, local initiatives, and engagement with constituents, while maintaining an approachable and professional online presence.

Required skills and values
• Some experience of politics/parliament or a relevant field e.g. charity sector
• Ability to synthasise and summarise information
• Proactivity in identifiying priorities and opportunities
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Ability to manage a wide range of written and telephone enquiries
• Excellent time management
• Ability to work independently, as well as part of a small team
• Understanding of the importance of the work done in the constituency office
• An understanding of Scottish politics and governance
• Discretion and professionalism
• Sympathetic to the aims, values and objectives of the Labour Party
