Job Details

Catherine West MP is seeking a motivated, reliable and compassionate Senior Caseworker or Caseworker to join her team. The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role. 

The role will involve working in Catherine West MP’s Westminster Parliamentary office, with travel and work in Hornsey & Friern Barnet for surgeries and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a large and varied caseload, resolving issues through clear communication with government agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead on complex casework, professionally and empathetically.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Draft and send correspondence to constituents on behalf of the MP, keeping them informed of case progress.
  • Liaise with the office team and relevant groups, organisations, businesses and stakeholders.
  • Organise and attend surgeries and meetings, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Supervise Casework Team, maintaining high standards of correspondence and casework.
  • Produce regular reports to identify common or emerging local issues and suggest proactive campaigns.
  • Attend meetings with the MP, and on occasion on their behalf, taking notes and following up on actions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the Data Protection Act.
  • There may be a requirement for occasional work outside of normal hours and travel.

Person Specification

  • Experience of working in Parliament, local government, charities, or similar sectors, with casework experience (2+ years for Senior Caseworker level).
  • Empathetic, tactful, and sensitive approach to constituent enquiries.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively within a busy team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident interacting with people at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Caseworker.mp.
  • Knowledge of housing, immigration, and welfare issues.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
  • Knowledge of Hornsey & Friern Barnet and its key local issues.
